I enjoy sharing musings with everyone and yet this week my inspiration ran dry UNTIL I was brainstorming aloud and my dear daughter recommended I write about how “things are different this year – especially the holidays – and it is scary. And it can still be good. Besides if something is different it won’t stay different for long because you will get used to it and it will be your ‘new usual’ and it won’t be scary anymore.”
Out of the mouths of babes.
So why just get through and barely tolerate the differences?
Why not celebrate the differences?
In society we aim to celebrate the differences in people – but with our experiences we try to get them back to normal or rush through them as soon as humanly possible.
This year my family of three celebrated Thanksgiving together rather than with extended family in order to keep us all healthy. It was…different. It was… enjoyable…in it’s own way. There was more down time (which my family needed this year) and steak instead of turkey!
(Well, there was steak on Steaksgiving and then Thanksgiving dinner favorites the day after).
So what happens if you celebrate the different experiences without labeling them as “good” or “bad?”
Thrive believes that “There Is Magic In Disruption.”
With that comes an opportunity to level up in every experience that comes your way. (Steaksgiving anyone?)…
It recognizes that life happens for you – not to you – and this doesn’t negate the suck. (Even though we connected virtually we still missed hugs AND shared how grateful we were that all this happened after the invention of the great interwebs).
When things are disrupted, you can pause and create powerful responses rather than knee-jerk reactions; allow for new growth; and find clarity about what you want to experience. (Steaksgiving anyone?)…
Most of all, “magic in disruption” recognizes the perspective that what you experience is a choice…your choice.
But really I just wanted to share that “things are different this year – especially the holidays – and it is scary. And it can still be good. Besides if something is different it won’t stay different for long because you will get used to it and it will be your ‘new usual’ and it won’t be scary anymore.”
