I recently returned from a recruiting trip in Phoenix, Arizona, Boys Jr. National Championships. The kind where everyone is there scoping the talent, making connections and making an effort to be the best representation of what they have to offer. At said event, I was able to connect and reconnect with some amazing individuals doing life their way.
There were people that I interacted with over the course of the week that I perceive to be better coaches, recruiters, communicators, planners, yada, yada, yada. And you know what, they might be.
This type of interaction has, on occasion, left me feeling inadequate, like an imposter, and/or downright incapable of success. I would feel burdened by my shortcomings as a coach. My self-worth/confidence would dip pretty low during these times.
After much self-reflection, examination and trudging through the suck, the beauty for me now lies in seeing these awesome people crushing their passions in a way that is honoring to them. Those people stick out to me not because they are better than me but because they are operating in a way that’s important to me. I want to do more of that! I don’t have to do things the same way and I if I did I would be an imposter. I want to represent what I have to offer as authentically as possible. I believe in my soul that when I do, that’s when I attract the people that are most aligned with what our program offers and gives us the best chance at success. I don’t want to attract imposters, so I need to not be one.
I want to thank and acknowledge those people for showing up the way they do. You make me want to be better. You make me want to redefine how I show up. You give me the subconscious permission to crush it… my way.
