Has Your Glass Shattered?

You know how they say you either see the glass as half-empty or the glass as half-full?

Well, I’ve always believed myself to be a glass “half-full” type of person.

Until it shattered.

And everything spilled out.

Has that ever happened to you?

My glass was in little bitty pieces all over the floor all around me. Exhausted, I couldn’t bend over to pick them up.

All I saw was the brokenness and no way to repair it.

I believed even if I could repair the glass…the vessel…me…it would be more fragile and unable to hold itself together especially if the gentlest of breezes blew up against it.

Time passed and I grew more exhausted from tiptoeing around the broken glass so not wanting to be cut, I decided to try to repair it. I bent over but couldn’t reach the largest piece nearest to me. I decided to try again the next day.

On that attempt I was able to bend over, pick up the largest piece and hold it in my hand to examine it. The jagged edges. The missing slivers.

The next time I scooped up several tiny shards, ever so gently, and pieced them together even though they didn’t fit together perfectly. I learned to acknowledge and fill those spaces with acceptance and love for what the spaces allowed me to see.

Then I decided to fill the spaces in between with love – making the entire glass stronger and more beautiful than before.

As I repair the glass…as I heal myself…I experience a more beautiful and resilient vessel. And I pour love into the glass until it is full.
