From Exhaustion to Supercharged

There are those times when you get to the end of an extremely busy day and you are supercharged! You feel like you crushed it!

Then there are those times when you get to the end of a busy day and you drop exhausted and lifeless onto the closest piece of furniture you can find (or the floor).

What’s the difference?

Perspective!

Perspective is learned and creates behaviors, influencing your energy state and how you show up. These energy states and behaviors are what contribute to exhaustion/burnout.

Positive perspectives are expansive, open you up to new ideas, creativity, and endless options, and are integrative, connective, and inclusive. Positive perspectives are more easily attainable when you are operating from your parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) which calms and balances your body. Working from your PNS gives you the extra energy to sail through your day riding a wave of inspired motivation.

Negative perspectives, however, lead to heightened stress, are segregative, isolating, diminishing, and disconnective, and limit your creativity and productivity. They trigger your sympathetic nervous system (SNS). Operating from this system for prolonged periods of time leads to exhaustion/burnout. All of your resources are being used to combat the stress, leaving little to no reserves for much else.

If you’re always running on empty, feel as though you’re dragging yourself through the day and your energy and motivation are low, chances are that you have negative perspectives.

Things to consider if you’re feeling exhausted:

  • Are your perspectives benefitting you? (Obviously not or you wouldn’t be feeling exhausted.)
  • Do you want to continue having these perspectives?
  • What perspectives would better support you in:
    • Experiencing what you’d like to experience?
    • Being the person you’d like to be?
    • Feeling the way you want to feel?
  • Do these perspectives support you in:
    • Functioning optimally?
    • Leading/Influencing in the way you’d like to influence?
    • Impacting in the way you’d like to impact?
